'59 Mercury Ad (Life - April 27, 1959)

Visually, this is an interesting ad. The blue of the car mirrors the blue of the sky. The white tree, on which very young children (all of them boys) are perched rather high, is apparently dead. The only girl in the photo is sitting in the car (wearing a very frilly dress) while one of the young boys offers her a bouquet of flowers. Is the ad suggesting that this car is as fun (to a man) as a toy is to a child? Sexual differences are on display here also: the girl is pretty but passive (and sitting on the passenger side of the car), while the boys are active and daring.
