|Letters to the Editor ('Teen & Ingenue - February to August 1965)
These letters to the editor (even when they are critical of Colleen) give a good indication of just how popular Colleen was (and how pervasive her image was) during the mid-Sixties. One recurring theme is the quite justified criticism of Colleen's excessive thinness. In fact she was significantly underweight (though not by fashion industry standards) throughout her early years as a model, though she claimed that she never dieted or exercised. In that regard she was similar to Twiggy (who hit the modeling scene in 1966 at 5'6" and 90 lbs). The poor printing quality of these early magazines is evident in the question about Colleen's eyes (which do indeed appear to be brown in most of her cover photos).
